I originally planned to purchase Ring's door bell but opted not to when I realized that Ring would automatically share my video with law enforcement in the event there was a request for video without my permission. Granted, I could opt out, and no I'm not against law enforcement at all, but after the debacle in years past with Ring cameras being used by hackers this was the final straw as I have no faith in electronics due to their lax security and history of using data collected without the user's permission. This camera/doorbell is everything I wanted, I was disappointed in the lack of adapters for mounting the doorbell as doesn't stock Amcrest's adapter that I needed (right angle/90 degree) but even Amcrest's website shows that adapter out of stock. I was able to find an ebayer that offers a large variety of angles/adapters. installing was simple, I recommend watching the attached video on this listing and there's a more detailed video on installation on youtube. Night vision is a tad bit over-saturated due to the IR lights reflect off the walls of my house. Pictures/video is crystal clear een on regular mode, 1080p requires selecting that option on the app. App is easy to install, quick to program, the chime kit was required for my door bell appliance inside the home as when installing even the light that indicated the doorbell was ready for programming would cause a signal to be sent to my door chime each time the light flashed on, which was a tad confusing at first. I recommend installing an SD card, it must be an micro sd and a class 10 to work. There is little to prevent someone from removing the sd card as it is hidden by the plastic cover that hides the screws for mounting. I am happy with this camera, it has amazing coverage, it accommodates for low light, bright light, and direct sun up to a 45 degree angle. It is roughly 4 times the size of a standard door bell, it attaches well to the base, but due to it's size one could assume some vandal could pull/remove it by kicking/hitting it. I would recommend this doorbell for the above mentioned reasons. It is truly a high quality camera that works as a door bell.
Very easy to setup, my only gripe is that it doesnt integrate with the rest of my amcrest system. It uses a separate app than my NVR so unless you want to pay for cloud storage you must use a SD card 64gb is the max they say you can use; I havent tried one larger.Motion detection is way overly sensitive. I updated mine upon install and it changed the way the motion detection is adjusted, even with it on 1 (lowest setting) it picks up cars passing my house ~30’ away. Which is super annoying living on a semi-busy street. To the point I tried to schedule motion detection just for day time when im away but had to disable it all together as I was getting notifications every 10 minutes.Picture quality is excellent (can toggle from SD to HD). I also used the included Chime Kit to keep my indoor chime working and it has like a half a second delay but works flawlessly. When someone rings the bell and I answer on my phone the mic on the unit is nice and clear and the speaker on the unit is very loud and clear. Gotta be careful not to be to close to the doorbell when answering a ring as it will feedback. Overall excellent unit. Would be amazing if I can figure out a way to tie it to my amcrest NvR and record it like another camera. Im going to do some tinkering and try to get that to work, not the end of the world though.App works very well also. Havent had any issues with it. I updated the firmware of the doorbell through the app once it was on my wifi no problem.
I installed the doorbell immediately upon receiving it. The packaging was very well put together, and included everything I needed which is awesome. I am replacing my Ring doorbell due to the fact that it requires a subscription and it does not work that well. . The install went well. I popped an SD card it and got to it. I did not use the chime kit, as my chime worked perfectly without it. The app and functions are working perfectly, and I have had no issues with it yet.
I own several Amcrest PTZ cameras that work great with my Synology Surveillance Station NAS.When I first discovered they released a video doorbell, I was very excited to try it out, especially at the more than reasonable price! It's been a couple weeks since I installed it. The installation was straight forward. It uses the existing cabling, power, and chime. I highly suggest watching the installation videos, they cover the physical installation and app configuration...The video is sharp and clear, even at night. The app notification works well. I also like that the unit itself chimes when the button is pressed.I did reach out to support with a couple general questions, they were prompt and answered my questions. The only unknown for me is the durability. How will the temps, weather, and humidity affect the unit over the years.I am very happy with the unit and support. Definitely a thumbs up for me. Highly recommended!
I have been looking to get a doorbell camera for a while. I decided to go with the Amcest because of its size, price and ability to hold an SD card. This camera is also much smaller than Ring. The only downside to the Amcrest doorbell cam is that it needs to be hardwired, which is good and bad. If you already have a wired doorbell, there is no down side. It will install in minutes. I didn't have a wired doorbell, but I didn't want a huge device outside my house or have to worry about changing batteries all the time. It took me about an hour to install this camera including wiring it with a power adapter which I got from for about $15.Storage / playback -The other great thing about Amcrest is they have a SD card slot, so you can use an SD card to store recordings. This is nice if you don't want to pay the monthly fees to record to the cloud like some of the competitors require. Amcrest does have a cloud storage system and they offer a free year of storage which is great! I personally will likely just use the SD card for playback after my 1st year of Free storage.Quality -The quality of the camera is great both during the day and at night. No complaints on the qualityApp / functionality -The setup is very easy with the app and as soon as someone presses the door bell it immediately pops up almost like a phone call on my phone. There are also settings to alert you any time motion is detected and you can also set areas to specify the location of motion detection. I set mine so it doesn't alert me if a car drives by, but once someone walks on my property is sends me an alert.Overall I have been using this for a week or 2 and really like everything about it, especially knowing exactly when UPS/ Fedex packages get dropped off.
