I love this! I previously had another WOPET automatic feeder, but I was only able to set it for one meal at a time. I wanted to start feeding my cat multiple meals throughout the day instead, so after a lot of research I settled on this feeder. Regarding portion size, I would suggest that you do the math yourself versus going off the measurements listed in the directions based on your specific kibble. I measured out what the feeder considered one portion size (I believe it was one tablespoon), so I give my cat 4 portions in the morning and evening with two 1 portion servings in the afternoon as a snack for a total of just over 1/2 cup total a day. PROS: It keeps time beautifully, and my cat has never missed a meal. It is also surprisingly quiet when dispensing the food. My cat never could open my previous WOPET feeder and the same is true with this unit, but she’s not the type to try (she still insists on bothering me instead). CONS: The feeder is huge, and the feeder sprays kibble crumbs while dispensing. Nothing to help with the size, but regarding the crumbs, I believe it will be helpful to run the kibble through a strainer to get any crumbs out before pouring in the container. I haven’t cleaned the unit yet, but it was very easy to assemble so I would imagine that cleaning will be just as easy.
I’m so impressed with this feeder! I’ve spend hundreds of dollars on other brands over the years, and this one is such a steal! I love the sleek design compared to others I’ve had. The best part is the controls, the display and settings are infinitely more intuitive than other brands. My cat eats Hills TD kibble for dental health, which has a kibble size that’s unusually large (1 cm+). When using automatic feeders I’m always worried that the kibble will get jammed over time or dispense variable portions due to the size. This feeder includes two different interior rotating kibble portion dispensers, and the larger one is more than large enough for my cats food. I’m very very happy with this and only wish I would have discovered it years ago. Whole heartedly
I've got a whole chonk of a cat, 14.8lbs, who will happily eat any and all food he can get his hands on. In the past we've struggled with automatic feeders because he can get his little paw up in the maching to make more pebbles fall out, but he can't with this one! Add on the super secure lid (I've knocked it over once, literally no issues), and now the chonky boy can't get free nibbles! It did take some finagling to find the right serving size because -oh boy- they were generous. Now he gets the second-to-smallest size for breakfast and the smallest size for a midnight snack, and that's enough to keep him full but not overfed. Overall this feeder is AMAZING and if you have the patience so program it and work with the serving sizes, you'll probably love it!
I use this for a cat, and changed the dispensing wheel to the small portion sized. Then you can select how many 'portions' for each feeding, which make the feeding quite tune-able to whatever you want to give for each meal. There was a guide that stated how much each 'portion' was on either the small or big dispensing meal, tried to calculate based on that, don't bother, just play around with the number of portions till you get what you want dispensed. There is an audio recorder as well so you can 'call' your animal to dinner. I would list the playback as almost worthless, but sort of a gimmick I wasn't interested in anyway. I was concerned about the cat pushing this thing around or knocking it over in an effort to get at the food (he pushes the tuperware container around that we use to store the food not in the machine). But this thing is heavy and he has never tried to knock it over or move it.
This pet feeder has really helped with getting my dog on a feeding schedule and has eliminated him eating his food so fast that he ends up throwing half of it back up. I can't feed him throughout the day while I'm away and if I give him food in the morning and night he scarfs it down so fast that the above mentioned vomiting usually happens shortly after. This has allowed me to split what used to be two feedings into four and I have to do nothing but make sure it's programmed to do so and that there's food in it. The food bowl is large enough to hold the amount of all four feedings at one time if I wanted to. This is battery operated and really just works well and was such a needed purchase for us. The batteries are easy to install and it's also easy to program. I definitely would recommend this, it's so much better than having dog bowls sitting around.
